Every year, the Global Communication and Social Change Division recognizes the outstanding work of scholars in the field by awarding its Best Dissertation and Best Book Awards. These awards recognize publications and dissertation published/presented in the 24 calendar months prior to the Annual Conference.
The ICA GCSC Best Book Award honors any sole or jointly authored book (edited or co-edited volumes shall not be included), carrying a date of publication between January 1, 2020, and December 31, 2021. The book should represent a major contribution to research in any one or more of the research fields that pertain to the mission of the division.
The ICA GCSC Best Dissertation Award honors a dissertation defended in the two calendar years preceding the nomination deadline (i.e. between January 1, 2020 and December 31, 2021). The review committee judges each nominated dissertation on several criteria including the importance of the problem it addresses, the strength of evidence it presents, and the significance of its conclusions all relative to the mission of the Division. The committee also considers the soundness of methodology and quality of writing and argument, along with the nominating letter(s).
Nominations for the 2022 ICA Global Communication and Social Change Best Book and Best Dissertation Award are open until April 1, 2022. Interested candidates should visit the Call for Nominations pages on the ICA GCSC website.
